Berlin excursion destinations
There are many wonderful places in the capital. Here are my top 5 (not-so-secret insider tips).
By Lorena Erler, residential tutor at dormitory Siegmunds Hof
1. The Tiergarten
The Tiergarten is one of the largest parks in Berlin and has, in addition to beautiful cafes, many green spaces that invite you to relax. The park is also ideal to do sports or quietly enjoy nature and let your soul dangle. Sights such as the Victory Column and the English Garden can also be found there.
5. The Museumsinsel
The Museumsinsel is a particularly beautiful place, towards evening you can experience a lot there, often there are street musicians and salsa evenings right on the water.
Of course, you can also pay a visit to the museums.
2. The Tempelhofer Feld
Tempelhofer Feld is a former airport field. The large area and asphalt runways are perfect for inline skating or cycling. There are numerous possibilities to use the areas, in summer there are barbecue areas and there are also areas for dog owners. Even in winter you can ski or simply walk on the Tempelhofer Feld.
3. The Viktoriapark
The Viktoriapark is in contrast to the Tiergarten and the Tempelhofer Feld a hilly park, actually there is the Kreuzberg. From the top of the Kreuzberg you have a wonderful view over the city. The waterfall in the park is an absolute highlight.
4. The Great Wannsee
The Große Wannsee is one of my favorite lakes in Berlin. With the S-Bahn you can find the lake very easily and can also swim for free in some places and enjoy the water directly. On hot summer days, sunshine and cooling can be combined.
