6. What support is available for everyday life and care?

In addition to the demands of their studies, many students with disabilities need to organize comprehensive support in their everyday lives. Personal assistance includes help with daily activities based on individual needs. This not only includes assistance in areas such as housekeeping or care, but also assistance in participating in social life. This can be implemented in various ways. One option is to organize the assistance yourself; alternatively, services can be used.

Possible cost bearers here are, for example, care insurance, social welfare providers and providers of integration assistance. Personal assistance helps people to organize their everyday life in their own home or in an environment of their choice. See also the 'Bundesteilshabegesetz'.

International students can only make limited use of social benefits in the form of personal assistance. We advise you to obtain comprehensive information about this in advance.

If you have any questions about the organization of personal assistance or about rehabilitation and participation in general, you can contact the independent participation advice centers. Advice is usually provided in the form of "peer counseling", i.e. by those affected for those affected. You can find the advice center in your area here.
