CALL | Competition: Wall Design of KUNSTRAUM Potsdamer Straße

The entire, approx. 50 m long facade of the KUNSTRAUM Potsdamer Straße is waiting to become a gigantic surface for your design. For this project, the studierendenWERK BERLIN is looking for a student artist, designer, architect, graphic designer, illustrator who would like to stage this 10m high and 50m wide side of the parking garage in an artistic design related to space and architecture, typographically, graphically and colorfully. The implementation of the winning design will be carried out by a professional company and financed by us separately. There are no additional costs and the winner does not have to apply the work to the facade himself/herself! So give your own visions of a contemporary and special visibility of the KUNSTRAUM Potsdamer Straße a space and send them with your expressive designs via the online form to us!

Our wishes for the design:

The KUNSTRAUM is characterized by the typical functional garage architecture of the 1970s concrete era. It includes the gallery on the first floor of the parking garage and the large underground parking garage with the entrance at the stair tower on the left side of the building. Both entrances to these two exhibition spaces should be highlighted in the design to clarify where the entrances are and create a connection from the exterior to the interior of the building. Overall, the design should deal with the peculiarities of the "brutalist" architecture, or the building and its surroundings, both spatially and in terms of color.

Plastic, sculptural elements cannot be installed. The design will be implemented 2-dimensionally in terms of color and graphics - but a visual 3-dimensional effect is also possible. It is also important to us to have concise typeface/typography with the name "KUNSTRAUM" on at least one of the 3 specific floor bands on the right side of the building, so that it is visible from Potsdamer Straße that the KUNSTRAUM begins here, in the courtyard.

The first place is endowed with 1000 € prize money and the design will be realized on the facade. The 2nd place is endowed with 500 € and the 3rd place with 300 €.

A jury of experts will select the three best designs. The new closing date for entries is 9th October 2022
