Workshop Critical Masculinities

Always be strong, never cry and similar toxic masculinity expectations hurt many people. Would you like to learn to reflect on these patterns together and explore alternatives? Then welcome to this workshop!

In this workshop we will take a critical look at traditional, patriarchal images of masculinity, question them and analyse why they are harmful to all people, especially women, people who are read as female and gay men.

Together we will also look at cis-male pain in the patriarchy and then work in groups on ways to live masculinity in a feminist way. The workshop is open to all genders, but the content is mainly aimed at cis men.

This workshop will take place within the exhibition "The Tide Is High", at Kunstraum Potsdamer Str. In this exhibition, the artists Annemie Martin and Jana Kießer deal with the topics of climate change and sexism with the help of various media.

My name is Cosmo (he/they), I am 31 years old, live in Berlin and work in independent education with a focus on critical masculinity and feminism as well as awareness, anti-fascist education and autism sensitisation. I am a creative person with an affinity for language who is very interested in social processes and community building. Competition and fighting have never been my thing, but de-escalation, communication and cooperation are. Focus on needs is a concern for me and I believe that we need diversity to ensure our survival as a species. It is important to me to create an empathetic space in which it is easy for cis men to come to terms with their patriarchal socialisation together, so that we can all approach gender justice in a mature way and at eye level.
