Shifting Tides: Art in a Changing Climate

OPEN CALL for a group exhibition parallel to Art Week Berlin 2025

We are inviting you to be part of a unique exhibition running parallel to Art Week 2025. Under the title ‘Shifting Tides: Art in a Changing Climate’, we want to reflect artistically on the most pressing challenge of our time - the climate crisis. We are looking for students working in the arts who deal with the climate crisis from different perspectives.
 
Your work can address the following four questions:
 
  • Personal stories - How do young artists experience the climate crisis in their immediate environment?
  • New technologies and sustainability - Can innovative technologies help promote sustainability and environmental awareness?
  • Climate justice and protest - Art as a medium of protest and an impulse for social change?
  • Ecosystems of the future - What utopian or dystopian visions of the future of ecosystems accompany us?
There will be a series of exchange formats allowing you to discuss the conceptual aspects of your works within the group and with the artistic management team. Further, we can answer your questions regarding the technical set-up of your works in the Kunstraum space. The aim is to collectively develop an impressive group exhibition that will have a lasting impact. 
We accept works in the media of painting, graphics, sculpture, installation, photography, video, sound, performance, digital and interactive art, among others. Participatory projects that actively involve the audience are particularly welcome. Artists are encouraged to use environmentally friendly materials and integrate creative solutions to reduce their ecological footprint. 
 
 
 
 

  • 31. March 2025: Submission deadline
  • Mid-April 2025: Result of the jury
  • 25. April 2025 2pm-5pm: CreativeLAB - 1st meeting & inspection of the exhibition spaces
  • 16. Mai 2025 2pm-5pm: CreativeLAB (exchange of concepts & exhibition design)
  • 15. July 2025 14pm-5pm: CreativeLAB (planning of setup & installation technology)
  • 5. - 9. September 2025 10 am- 6pm: Set-up
  • 10. - 14. September 2025: Exhibition

Participation in the CreativeLAB sessions is mandatory and an essential part of the project. These ‘CreativeLABs’ are supported by professional exhibition technicians and experts. The terms and conditions of participation are automatically accepted upon participation.
